The FMP Rally Challenge, which is open to members of all MSA registered Motor Clubs, was created in 2013 to support Wales Air Ambulance and thanks to the generosity of competitors and spectators the charity has benefited on average by over £1000 per year.

Melvyn takes a historic victory
Challenge contender Melvyn Evans has made Motorsport history by taking victory on the Corbeau Seats Rally held in the Tendring and Clacton area. Seeded at Car 1 made him the first driver to compete on a Rally held on closed public roads thanks to new legislation for England and Wales.
The closing of public roads to stage Motorsport events is common throughout the world and the UK’s sports governing body, the MSA have worked tirelessly to get legislation through parliament to allow it to happen in England and Wales. This allows the temporary suspension of speed limits to bring the spectacle to the public with great financial benefits to areas embracing such events. An estimated 6000 people attended with many travelling from Wales to help marshal and to spectate. Melvyn decided to retain the FMP / Wales Air Ambulance stickers on for the rally.
Fund Raising Manager¬†Mark Stevens commented, ‘We¬†understand that¬†the rally¬†has created a large amount of media attention and we are really grateful to Melvyn and to Challenge Organisers Maesteg and District Motor Club¬†for helping us¬†to raise the profile of the Charity.‚Äô
Get It Sideways – Rallynuts Update Round 5 Preview
Due to the popularity of this event meaning many contenders failing to get an entry, and mechanical issues prior to the start, it was left to Number 1 seed Chris Ransley to fly the FMP / Wales Air Ambulance flag at Down Ampney. Chris was accompanied by reigning champion Chris Sharpe Simkiss and they hoped to repeat last year’s victory at Down Ampney. A muddy first stage made it difficult to capitalise on the power of the BMW M3 and a time outside the top 10 was recorded. After climbing to 7th on a drying track and with a podium position still within grasp it was decided to change to slicks. Unfortunately it did not go their way when Chris put a wheel off the track launching them into the trees. Both gladly escaped with just aches and pains but it is not yet clear whether the car is repairable.
The Rallynuts Stages
Due to the postponement of the Mid Wales Stages the Rallynuts was the second gravel event of the Championship. 35 contenders began the event which is a reserve round, from the Royal Welsh Showground. Points below will be added to Contenders totals if a qualifying gravel round fails to run this year.
