FMP Rally Challenge Champion Driver 2016 - Wynne Watkins

FMP Rally Challenge Champion Driver 2016 – Wynne Watkins

Swansea driver Wynne Watkins has had his most successful year to date and has emerged as FMP Champion after a close end of year battle with Maesteg and District Motor Club’s Aaron Jones. Wynne took the lead mid-season in his Subaru Impreza, helped by choosing the Manx Trophy Rally as his optional overseas round where he also claimed points for his successful bid to take the MSA Asphalt Group N title. Aaron held a one point lead going into the final round, the Patriot Stages. Staffordshire businessman Nev Jones takes the final podium position after competing on gravel and tarmac this year in both a Subaru and Escort Mk. 2 with Junior contender Chris Davies who finished 5th. Winning the FMP Gravel Cup for a second year is Cardigan driver Dylan Davies. Challenge rules allow Juniors to be eligible for more than one prize meaning Aaron is Junior Champion for a second time, is 2nd overall and winner of the FMP Tarmac Cup.

FMP Rally Challenge Overall and Junior Champion co-driver Siobahn Pugh.

FMP Rally Challenge Overall and Junior Champion co-driver Siobahn Pugh.

Siobahn Pugh has managed to emulate our inaugural 2013 champion Claire Williams by taking both the Overall and Junior Co-driver titles. In recognition of her achievement the 22 year old from Newtown has been selected for the prestigious MSA Academy, an initiative run by the governing body, the Motor Sports Association. Scotland’s Richard Crozier who has supported the Championship on 7 of the 10 rounds takes second place. Third and fourth place go to two co-drivers competing under Maesteg DMC.

Junior Champion Aaron Jones with 3rd placed Owen Evans.

Junior Contender Owen Evans has competed with Aaron Jones all year and Paul Wakely has competed on both gravel and tarmac events to clinch fourth. 2015 Champion Chris Williams from Llandysuls success as a driver and co-driver this year has earned him the FMP Two Seats Trophy.

On FMP Rounds that coincided with the British Championship, support for Wales Air Ambulance was gained from Rally Stars Elfyn Evans, Osian Pryce and budding youngster Meirion Evans as well as Honouary Maesteg Motor Club member Max Vatanen. The 2016 ‚ÄėFMP‚Äô has again succeeded in raising over ¬£1000 for the charity due to the generosity of competitors and spectators.
