CRUEL LUCK FOR BROWN / GOLDING

PRYCE AND SPENCER SPORT HELP PROMOTE WALES AIR AMBULANCE

Nicky Grist Stages

Taunton couple Martin and Dawn England have strengthened their existing lead with fourth place on the Nicky Grist Stages. With little breeze and dry conditions dust hampered their progress early on before the organisers allowed a two minute gap between the Top 20 contenders. The event, which is undoubtedly the most prestigious in the Championship had a ceremonial start in Builth Wells and was also a round of the British Rally Championship.

The Cardiganshire based SPENCER SPORT Rally Team assisted in raising the profile of Wales Air Ambulance on the event by running FMP / WAA stickers on the Fiesta R5’s of Osian Pryce / Dale Furniss and James Williams / Dai Roberts.

Rally Star Osian who ran at Car 1 on the event said that he was delighted to show his support.

Bad luck befell regular contenders Terry Brown and Den Golding when a fan failure on the way to the first stage lead to the car overheating. To  save ‘cooking’ the engine the crew reluctantly withdrew though Den, who competed on the non championship tarmac section of the event the next day, took victory with Damien Cole.

Contenders Give Overwhelming Support

Challenge Co-ordinator Terry Frayne had a big task on his hands in recent weeks having to gain a reply from all 50 contenders to agree to an event date change. The sports governing body, the MSA stipulates that all contenders must agree to prevent a rally from being excluded from a Championship. Terry said, ‘I was really heartened by the 100% positive response from the contenders for their selfless approach’.  Even though a couple cannot make the new date and could potentially lose out many stated that they were happy to do whatever was the best for the Championship and for promoters Maesteg and District Motor Club.

Siobhan Returns

Current FMP  Champion co-driver and MSA Academy nominee Siobhan Pugh has joined  partner Arwel Jenkins in the current  Top 5 by finishing third in her class on the Nicky Grist Stages.  Arwel currently lies 3rd.

There are still a few entries left on the next round, Brecon Motor Club’s Harry Flatters Rally on Epynt.
