Vatenen 2A well known name in motor sport circles has registered this year in a bid to help raise the profile of Wales Air Ambulance after kind permission was granted by his sponsor DMACK Tyres.  Honouary Maesteg Motor Club member and rising rally star Max Vatanen from Finland will carry the FMP / Wales Air Ambulance logo on his Fiesta R5 on the selected rounds of the British Rally Championship which coincide with the FMP Rally Challenge.

Manager, Mark Stevens is delighted that FMP is continuing to help raise the profile of the charity throughout 2016 especially with such a famous name being involved.

The Vatanen family have a strong affiliation to the town of Maesteg as it is acknowledged as the place where Max’s father Ari Vatanen launched his international career. Back in 1975 John Thomas who is a Club Member persuaded a Maesteg garage owner to help Ari to bring his aging Opel Ascona over to compete on the Welsh Rally. John, who remains a good friend was his co-driver. After Ari’s flamboyant driving style caught the eye of Team Managers it was just six years before he became World Champion.
